Kay L. Wier, 73, of rural Augusta, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 in hospice care at Clearwater Care Center in Eau Claire.
Kay Louise Wier, daughter of Albert and Mildred (Honsey) Culbertson was born Dec. 12, 1942 in Lanesboro, Minnesota. Kay grew up in the Lanesboro area where she was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and graduated from Winona High School in 1960. On April 18, 1964, Kay was united in marriage to Armond Wier at Zion Lutheran Church in Galesville. The couple began their life together in Galesville and Winona before renting a farm in Tamarack. They eventually purchased a farm in Centerville before moving to their current farm in Otter Creek Township, rural Augustaon April 16, 1977. Kay loved her life on the farm; milking cows, tending to the cats, dogs, new calves and baby pigs. She was also proud of her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and canning whatever she grew. Kay had perfected the art of apple pie making and looked forward to sharing her pies with whomever she could. One of her favorite pastimes was driving throughout the countryside and especially in her newcar.
Kay was a warm, big hearted individual who always put everyone first before herself. She cherished her friendships and adored her family and 10 wonderful grandchildren. For the past year Kay had spent more time in hospitals and nursing homes than at home. For almost 2 months she was a resident at Select Specialties, a long term acute care facility in Madison. Wanting to be nearer to her family she was transferred to Clearwater Care Center this past Monday.
Kay will be dearly missed by Armond, her husband of 52 years; 2 daughters, Lisa (Ken) Chegwidden of Mauston, Laurel (Wayne) Nicholson of Hudson; son Lance (Katie) Wier of Foster; 10 grandchildren, Kayli and Hannah Chegwidden, Averi and McKenzie Nicholson, Alayna, Lance Jr., Aurora, Breanna, Ariel and Cameron Wier; brother Robert “Butch” (Kathy) Culbertson of Whalen, MN; 3 sisters, Connie (Phil) Carter of Green Valley, AZ, Karen “Cookie” (Kermit) Bormann of Rochester, MN, Sandy Sampson (Kerri) of Harmony, MN; other relatives and many friends.
