Gretchen Hanson
Gretchen Hanson passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Mayo Hospital in Barron, WI. She was born on May 18, 1937 in Osseo, MN to Stanley and Eunice (nee Solberg) Mathis. Gretchen was a beloved wife to Allan (deceased), loving mother to Gloria Eckwright (Mike), Michael (Melanie), Steven (Fran) and Patricia Matthews (Bill, deceased). A cherished grandmother to 13, great grandmother to 12, and great-great grandmother to 2, and friend to many.
Gretchen was a legal secretary and administrative assistant for many years at Menards in Eau Claire. She enjoyed traveling to visit her children and grandchildren in Ohio and Illinois. She loved Disney and was able to visit Disney world on its 50th Anniversary, which was so special for her because she and her husband Allan took the kids there in 1971 during it’s inaugural year. Gretchen loved the time she spent being a foster grandmother at Osseo Schools for several years. Reading to the children brought her much joy.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 from 10 a.m. to Noon at Truax Congregational UCC Church 1008 S. 50th St. Eau Claire, WI 54703. Followed by a memorial service at Noon celebrated by Rev. Les Munnik, pastor and long-time friend to Gretchen.
Gretchen will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to laugh even when times got tough.
The family would like to thank her caregivers at Augusta Nursing and Rehab. Even though she wasn’t there for very long, she felt cared for and loved by the staff.
A special thanks goes out to the nurses and Dr. Amy at Mayo Hospital in Barron. The care they took of our beloved Mother and Grandmother was exemplary. We appreciate that very much.
