Ann Raether
Annabell Raether (Grindle) passed away on December 23, 2024, at the

Augusta Nursing Home. She was born on December 24, 1925, and chose to spend her 99th birthday with her beloved husband and family, who were awaiting her in heaven.

Ann was born at home to James and Pauline (Krall) Grindle. She was the second oldest of ten siblings. She married the love of her life, Raymond Raether, on June 1, 1946 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington. Together, they welcomed five children: Lorraine Kosakoski of Altoona, Joyce Raub of Fall Creek, Kenneth and Carol Raether of Birchwood, Diane and Charles L Steuding of Altoona, and Mary and Todd Stanek of Fall Creek.

Ann was a hardworking farm woman who always maintained a large garden from which she harvested and canned the fruits of her labor. Ann and Raymond’s home was always open to anyone who needed it, and many benefited from their generosity. She possessed many talents, and her holiday meals were a testament to her cooking and baking skills. She loved to fish and would keep each and every one that she could.

She enjoyed playing cards and would never turn down a chance to give a good set to her worthy opponents. Being involved in the church was very important to her; in addition to attending services regularly, she served in the Ladies Aid and volunteered at Bethesda Thrift Shop. Whenever possible, she would bring home scrap fabric and make patchwork quilts for her loved ones.

Ann was the heart of her family, and she will be deeply missed by all. She is survived by her five children, her grandchildren Kelly Winn and Rex Kenner (Jump River), Christina and Lavon Young (Newport, MN), Charles R Steuding and Angela Hazard (Eau Claire), Dana Steuding and Jeffrey Pennington (Knoxville, TN), Cade Stanek (Fall Creek), and Tyler Stanek (Holmen). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Justin Duncan (Eau Claire), Anthony Robinson and Amanda Traaseth (Fall Creek), Ejaita and Marho Gbejewoh (Newport, MN), Matthew Lombardi (Appleton), Elleanna Steuding (Eau Claire), Henrik and Evie Busch (Knoxville, TN), and Draedyn Cannon (Knoxville, TN), as well as her siblings-in-law Jean Roles and Gerald and Nancy Raether.

Ann has now joined all those who preceded her in death: her husband, Raymond Raether; her son-in-law, James Kosakoski; her grandson, Kevin Kosakoski; her parents James and Pauline Grindle; her siblings and their spouses, John Grindle, Claude Grindle, James Grindle Jr., Monroe and Barbara Grindle, Marion Grindle, Clarence and Mary Grindle, Roger Grindle, Hubert Grindle, and Emma and Robert Cooley; and her siblings-in-law, Cecilia Hoff, Carol Twerberg, and Clifford Raether.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 2:00 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek with entombment at a later date in the Trinity Cemetery in Fall Creek. Friends may call Sunday at the chuch from noon until the time of services.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Augusta Nursing Home, St. Croix Hospice, and Augusta Funeral Home for taking impeccable care of their beloved Annabell.
