Eileen C. Stensen, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday evening, December 15, 2024, at the home of her daughter Beverly in rural Osseo.
Eileen Claire Stensen, daughter of Robert and Nellie (Ness) Haskins was born April 8, 1932. She was raised with her sister Roberta on the family farm in the Thompson Valley area of Bridge Creek Township. She attended rural country school and graduated from Augusta High School. She went on to attend U.W. Stout to earn her teaching degree in Home Ec. and following her graduation she took a teaching position in Kendall, WI.
On October 23, 1953, Eileen was united in marriage to Everette Stensen at the United Methodist Church in Augusta. At this time Everette was serving in the United States Marines so for next 3 years she continued teaching in Kendall and then joined Everette in North Carolina for the final months of his enlistment. After his honorable discharge they returned to Augusta and operated farms in Otter Creek Township, where she concentrated on raising her 5 children.
In addition to her role as wife, mother and assistant on the farm, in the early 1970’s she was hired by the Augusta School District as a substitute teacher. She then took a position with the Augusta Housing where for several years she worked in the office dealing with the apartment tenants. Before finally retiring in March of 2012 she had worked for a time at the Augusta Public Library.
In 1990, she and Everette moved off the farm to their home on Lake Eau Claire and shortly after Everette passed away on Sept. 21, 2012, she moved to Osseo.
The Stensen family enjoyed snowmobiling and Eileen was no exception. She looked forward to the times spent on the trails and was an active member of the Augusta Area Sno-Drifters Snowmobile Club. Everette and Eileen loved dancing and they shared this enthusiasm with their family by attending many barn dances over the years. Everette and Eileen were avid square dancers and acquired many long lasting relationships through their square dancing involvement throughout Wisconsin and beyond. Eileen was an excellent seamstress and sewed many coordinating square dancing outfits, so they not only looked good on the floor but off as well.
Eileen enjoyed traveling and had fond memories of the trip she, Everette, Jim and Bev took the summer of 1977, traveling throughout the west and up into Alaska stopping to see family along the way. Eileen also loved fishing and especially the many fishing trips to Canada with family and friends.
Growing up Eileen was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Augusta. After her marriage she joined Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church where she enjoyed the camaraderie sewing quilts to donate to their various quilting projects.
While raising her family on the busy farm, she always had time for her gardens and canning the fruits and vegetables she grew to feed her family. She was also a supportive parent when it came to her children’s 4-H projects with the Russell Corner 4-H Club.
In later years she found it relaxing to work on a knitting project and looked forward to getting together and visiting with her friends.
