Joan Marie (Cabral) Pettis, age 80, of Hammond, WI died on March 19th, 2025, at her home of natural causes.
Joan was born on February 17th, 1945, in San Leandro, California to Manuel Cabral and Dolly Mae Nealon. At the age of 12, Joan was brought in by Leonard and Angela Vistenzo of Sonoma, California, became part of their family, and was raised as their daughter. She proudly referred to them as "mom and dad" the rest of her life.
In 1967 Joan met her husband Juel Pettis on a blind date while he was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in California. Two years later, on January 4th, 1969, they were married in Eagle, WI. They later relocated to Hammond, WI where she was a dedicated homemaker and housewife, raising their family.
Joan was passionate about fishing and camping (especially to Canada), preferring Northern Pike, Walleye, and Bluegills during the spring spawn. She further enjoyed traveling, visiting her family in California, going on cruises with Juel, playing cards, and going to the casino. She also enjoyed baking, embroidery, and knitting, as well as spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her children Angela Bohm, Walter Pettis, Leonard (Kathryn) Pettis; grandchildren Tia (Andrew) Senesac, Matthew (Melissa) Pettis, Autumn Curry, Skylar Stewart, Chloe Pettis, Hailey Pettis, Madison (Mason) Myler, and Evan Pettis; great-grandchildren: Aurora Senesac, Aiden Senesac, Haidyn Herold; and sister Georgia. She is further survived by her beloved foster family Angela Dipiero, Denna Faloni, Livio Dipiero, David Dipiero, and Kerry Amantite who all loved and accepted her as their own.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her foster mother and father Angela and Leonard Vistenzo, and husband Juel Dean Pettis, Jr.
A graveside service will be held at the Fairchild Cemetery in Fairchild, WI on April 26th, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
