William “Billy Ray” Raether, 67, of Augusta, WI, passed away on February 13th, 2025 after bravely fighting cancer.
Billy was born on January 22nd, 1958 to Leonard and Betty Raether (Herrick). He lived his entire life in Augusta, a strong and caring community that made sure he never fought cancer alone.
In 1989 Billy married the love of his life, Mary Raether (Erdman). Together they had two daughters, Megan and Mandi. They were the fearsome foursome. Billy always took great care of his family, making sure they wanted for nothing. From simple acts like starting all of their cars on cold mornings to bringing them beautiful things he found in the woods, he made sure that they felt loved everyday. Every spring as the apple and pear trees he planted bloom, he'll be thought of dearly in the home he built.
For 29 years Billy worked for Walmart as a truck driver. He liked being behind the wheel, and more importantly he enjoyed the friendships he created with people he met during his journeys.
Billy was a loving and giving individual who was always there for others. He made friends easily and found personal connections with everyone he met. He was an avid outdoorsman, choosing to spend most of his time fishing, canoeing, hunting, and taking walks. He taught his daughters to, “watch your bobber and keep your tip up.” Music trivia, yacht rock, baking rolled out Christmas cookies, classic car shows, and enjoying time on the deck were some of his favorite things.
Billy will be missed by everyone who knew him, especially his wife Mary; daughters, Megan Raether (Joe Quirk) and Mandi Raether both of Augusta, Lora (Brian) Keith of French Island; brothers, Leonard (Mitz) Raether of Fall Creek, Phillip Raether of Augusta; sisters, Roberta Thurston of Eau Claire, Liz Aarends of Sturgis, S.D.; Mary’s parents and sister, Jim and Jean Erdman and Tina Erdman all of Augusta; many beloved nieces, nephews other relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Sr. and Betty Raether.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Funeral services will be held Thursday at noon at the funeral home with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
