Yvonne F. Silvernail, 89, of Augusta, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Augusta Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Yvonne Fay, daughter of Arthur and Jennie (Vik) Quevillon was born May 10, 1935. She was raised in Colfax where she was baptized and confirmed at Colfax Lutheran Church and graduated as the class Salutatorian from Colfax High School in 1952. In 1956 she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire and was a member of the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta.
Yvonne was united in marriage to Gerald “Skip” Silvernail on August 25, 1956, and two days later started her teaching career for the Augusta School District. For over 34 years she taught high school English and served as advisor to many classes and organizations. In addition to teaching she also raised her 3 daughters, Susan, Sondra and Sharon.
Yvonne loved the outdoors and after retiring enjoyed the hours spent tending to her various flower and vegetable gardens. At this time in her life she was also blessed with grandchildren and cherished the many opportunities to baby sit them.
Skip and Yvonne both enjoyed their many friendships throughout their lives, spending time together and often going out to eat. When relaxing you could usually find Yvonne deep into an interesting book, as she was an avid reader but she also enjoyed watching Packer and Badger football games.
In the 1958 tornado that touched down in Colfax deeply affected Yvonne. This storm not only devastated the city destroying property, but also took the lives of several individuals which included her father. Yvonne’s mother was critically injured during the storm but did recover and Yvonne and her sister Mercedes also sustained injuries.
Yvonne will be dearly missed by her daughters, Susan (Steve) Arndt and Sondra Larson all of Augusta; grandchildren, Andrew (Amy) Arndt, Charles (Katherine) Waskiewicz, Jody (Steve) Carlson, Toni Stefanic, Jenny (Adam) King, Benjamin Lone, Carlson Taylor Jr. and Eric Taylor; 5 great granddaughters; 4 great grandsons; 1 step granddaughter; 4 step grandsons; several nieces and nephews; and special friend David “Jake” Jacobson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Jennie; husband Skip in 2019; daughter Sharon Lone; grandson, Michael Lone and Patrick Ousey; sons-in-law, Robert Waskiewicz and James Larson; and sisters, Arlene Barker, Naomi, Mercedes and Dorees Quevillon.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Augusta, with Pastor Dale Horner officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
