Athena Stark
Athena Stark, 24, succeeded in her own way to be free on October 14th, 2024. She respected life immensely. Her choice to leave this realm was not an easy one though testimony to her sensitivity and deep suffering.

Athena was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on February 24th, 2000, into the loving arms of her parents, Lori Chilefone and Zeus Stark. At an early age Athena was adventurous, articulate, creative, and an avid reader who loved spending time in nature. Athena folk-schooled through her elementary years, attended Delong Middle School with honors, and her freshman year was completed at Memorial High School. From 2015-2018 she attended Scattergood Friends School in West Branch, Iowa, where she enjoyed the harvest season, cross-country running, a spring farm tour on bicycles, ceramics with Shumpei, fencing, and hiking the southern portion (GA to PA) of the Appalachian Trail with peers and guidance from Hans, her teacher. This Quaker led high school allowed Athena to pursue her interests and passions leading to honors in most studies.

Athena brought creativity to her days through playing piano and bass, ceramics and drawing, creative repairs, and especially gardening. In 2019 (May and June) Athena independently went on to complete the Appalachian Trail (PA to ME), and spoke fondly of “The Frubble”, a large group of hikers she met and traversed with along the way. The summer of 2020 she hiked most of the Superior National Hiking Trail with company of friends and family. From late winter ‘21 to spring of ‘24, Athena worked with a great crew of people at Rush Creek Growers, carrying out many nursery related tasks from tending seedlings to erecting greenhouses.

Athena’s spirit, her attentive and kind presence, generosity, wit, sense of humor, and regard for nature positively impacted all who knew her. Her donor status echoed her generous nature, bearing gifts that ultimately restored hope for many people and their families. Athena is survived by her parents Lori and Zeus, sister Sabine, grandmothers Joan and Barbara, many aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, her partner Alan, and all her relations. Proceeded in death by her Grandfather’s, Michael and Larry, and numerous ancestors.

Athena was interred on sacred ground in Augusta, Wisconsin on October 20th, 2024. The Chilefone-Stark family is deeply grateful for all the loving support family and dear friends provided around Athena’s passing. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you shine your love forward in support of your community. Value those who challenge us to be our best selves, walk barefoot, behold the seed, plant a garden and share its bounty, and enjoy and respect the natural world in Athena’s memory.
