James R. Bethke, 66, of Green Bay, formerly of Augusta, passed away Saturday evening, August 25, 2012, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay, after a three week stay due to complications with diabetes.
James Richard Bethke, son of Victor and Irene (Deacon) Bethke, was born Dec. 26, 1945. He was raised on a farm south of Augusta in Bridge Creek Township and attended Diamond Valley Country School. He graduated from Augusta High School in 1965, and while in high school enjoyed wrestling, track and his F.F.A involvement. Growing up in Augusta, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed on June 25, 1961. Jim enlisted in the United States Army on May 27, 1966, and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After he was honorably discharged in May of 1969, he returned to Wisconsin, and spent the remainder of his life in Green Bay. While in Green Bay he was a self employed elevator repairman. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Jim is survived by his 4 children, Mindy Bethke of Oconto, WI, Stanley and Shelly Bethke of New London, WI, Katie (Joe) Meagher of Madison, WI, and Kenneth Bethke of California; 4 grandchildren, 9 siblings, William and Carol Bethke of Avon, MN, Edna and Wes Connell of Chippewa Falls, WI, Robert Bethke of Alvord, TX, Arlene and Joe Hulwi of Eleva, WI, Helen Bethke of New London, WI, Susan Bethke of Dayton, Ohio, Victor and Jennifer Bethke of Stevens Point, WI, Linda and Steve Buchholz of Eau Claire,WI, David Bethke of Homosassa, Florida; several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Irene in December of 1966 and his father, Victor in April of 1975.
